I have never heard a sound beating the air,
so fraught with the spirit of trouble and need of assistance,
as the sharp crack of the watchman's rattle
reverberating in the street at the dead hour of night.
~Edward H. Savage, 1865

I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use our natural resources; but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or to rob, by wasteful use, the generations that come after us.
~Teddy Roosevelt

JP, Considering that fact that between 10K and 16K children starve to death each day of the year, it says horrid things about our nation when we can cavalierly throw away a resource others need to survive.
American wasteland looks good. I watch a show every Monday night, one of the main characters always talks about how we throw away so much food, he even dumpster dives for meals....very interesting.
I think I may need to read this one.
Kyle, that is true across the board about the US when you look at our consumption of basically everything: energy, water, food. I love that I live here (sometimes) but working at the pizzeria, I throw away plates after plates of food that people order and then eat maybe a fourth of. It's quite disgusting!
David, let me know what you think of it. Just the fact of the book, and I'm already looking at ways that I in my life can be less wasteful. I don't eat much as it is, so that's a start. LOL
