Via Lexington Herald-Leader:
Gray, 57, a construction company executive who has been Lexington's vice mayor for four years, defeated Newberry, a 54-year-old lawyer, by a solid margin.
He becomes Lexington's first openly gay mayor and the first businessman who has been elected to Lexington's top spot since the city and county merged governments in 1974.
Gray, who has been on a leave of absence from Gray Construction, will not return while he holds office.
It was only the second time in the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government's history that a sitting mayor has been voted out of office. The first was four years ago, when Newberry beat then-Mayor Teresa Isaac.

You know what I love the most about this? It wasn't even an issue. A couple of elections back (maybe when he ran against Isaacs?) there were stories about him being gay, but I didn't hear it mentioned once during this campaign. Pretty remarkable, when you think about it.
Rand Paul, on the other hand....oy. Aqua Buddha help us with that guy in power :-(
You're right, Dawn. I think previously Jim wasn't out, and so, it became an easy way to attack him, but even then it was less about him being gay and more about him hiding something. He didn't seem trustworthy, I guess. It was a similar situation with Ernesto Scorsone.
As for Rand Paul, let's pray to the Aqua Buddha that McConnell will keep him in line.
This is so cool! I love it!
I can't believe it
It is very cool, Cubby!! :)
Believe it, Wonder Man. Rachel Maddow even talked about it. :)
