Forgive Them Father

Dangerous Minds has a clip from "How to win a culture war and lose a generation."

When asked by The Barna Group what words or phrases best describe Christianity, the top response among Americans ages 16-29 was “antihomosexual.” For a staggering 91 percent of non-Christians, this was the first word that came to their mind when asked about the Christian faith. The same was true for 80 percent of young churchgoers. (The next most common negative images? : “judgmental,” “hypocritical,” and “too involved in politics.”)

In the book that documents these findings, titled unChristian, David Kinnaman writes: “The gay issue has become the ‘big one,’ the negative image most likely to be intertwined with Christianity’s reputation. It is also the dimensions that most clearly demonstrates the unchristian faith to young people today, surfacing in a spate of negative perceptions: judgmental, bigoted, sheltered, right-wingers, hypocritical, insincere, and uncaring. Outsiders say [Christian] hostility toward gays… has become virtually synonymous with the Christian faith.”

Later research, documented in Kinnaman’s You Lost Me, reveals that one of the top reasons 59 percent of young adults with a Christian background have left the church is because they perceive the church to be too exclusive, particularly regarding their LGBT friends. Eight million twenty-somethings have left the church, and this is one reason why.

I cannot WAIT for the under-thirties to inherit the running of this country and kick to the curb the haters, bigots, misogynists, homophobes, white supremacists, liars, history distorters, racists, religious extremists, the lot of them.

I heard on the TV this morning that Caucasians for the first time are outnumbered by all other minorities taken together by something like 48 to 52 percent. I can imagine the uproar THAT'S going to cause in certain quarters. byPtne

I hear, becca, that it is best to sit somewhere in the middle. Also avoid balconies and the back pews. Front pews = hypocrits. Back pews = newly gay teen boys getting and giving their first handjobs. ;)

But Will, it appears that - at least to me and I want to be proven wrong on this - that many minorities have adopted the worst parts of white Christianity. Who was who said that we minorities act as if there is only so much equality to go around? :(

I agree with you, John. :(

Kyle, I thought it was the new unregulated Capitalism. ;)

Indeed, Mitchell, indeed. :)

Sorry, JP, but when it reaches the stage where religion is forcing politicians to pass laws codifying religious beliefs into law -- like the anti-abortion scum and the homophobes -- and where their leaders say you should be put into concentration camps and killed and not allowed to hold a job or have a place to live if you doing go along with their dogma, that's what the commies did under Stalin.

True capitalism wouldn't give a fuck
about anything but making a buck.

God, if she/he/it does exist is bigger than all our bullshit. Except possibly the big-time genocidists. (Is that a word?)
