Dating Someone HIV+

Image and quote via Accidental Bear

To a certain type of gay man, the thought of dating someone who is openly HIV positive can feel like social suicide. They certainly aren’t the best version of our culture, but any homosexual can attest to the reality of some sects of our society who view people’s HIV status like designer labels. When it comes to a negative man choosing to date someone who is positive, they may run the risk of someone confusing their Prada suit in a Banana Republic bag. But Joshua Stearns knew that rumors didn’t transmit the virus and that the potential for a loving relationship with Andrew was worth a few whispers over a mismatched label.

Absolute rubbish. The most ignorant thing I have ever read regarding HIV positive people. They are not the best version of our culture? Outrageous. What a myopic, phobic, shitty thing to say about a group of people. If I knew how to unfollow this blog, I would. I certainly will not be promoting it on mine. Garbage. Just the worst sort of gay bashing possible. Snobbery. Classism. The sort of hateful ideas that only truly unenlightened people promote and believe. - Uptonking from Wonderland Burlesque

Upon reading this more carefully, I realize this is not hateful, merely poorly written. The 'they' the author denigrates does not refer to HIV positive people, but to those with issues about dating HIV positive people.I apologize for over reacting, but leading that sentence with that clause in light of the previous sentence? I think you can see how one might misinterpret the author's intentions. My apologies. - uptonking from wonderland burlesque

Upton, I had the same reaction, and had to reread the article. Also, I published your first comment because without it the second comment did not make as much sense. :)
