Over at The Atlantic, Pakistani novelist Mohsin Hamid discussed one of his “all-time favorite passages in literature,” a quote from the Japanese author Haruki Murakami.

Talking about his own journey as a writer, Murakami explained: “writing a long novel is like survival training. Physical strength is as necessary as artistic sensitivity.”

If you've never read Kafka on the Riverbank, I can't recommend it enough. I started by reading Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World in English, which was awesome, and read Kafka in French. I actually really want to read IQ84, but I fear reading it in French.

I'm going to check these tools out though!

Murakami is high on my list, though I've not read any yet. :)
